In the coming weeks, the City of Brighton Utilities Department, in partnership with contractor American West Construction, LLC, will begin a water pipeline replacement project along South 4th Avenue from Bromley Lane to Skeel Street.  

Message boards and signage will be placed in the vicinity in advance of construction to alert drivers and pedestrians. Traffic control methods for the project are being finalized, but traffic flow will remain open in both north and southbound directions throughout the project. Short-duration closures may occur during the connection of critical infrastructure and any detours will be clearly marked.  

The project will replace approximately 3,800 feet of aging and undersized water lines to ensure continuity, quality and quantity of water service provided to customers. Additional aging infrastructure, such as fire hydrants and valves, will also be replaced. Although some minor water service interruptions may occur during the transition to the new pipeline, customers will be notified in advance. Bottled water will be provided upon request during any service disruption. 

The water project is expected to last approximately eight months and will be followed by a full reconstruction and resurfacing of South 4th Avenue within the project boundaries.   

The water line replacement project is partially funded by a grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The grant was awarded to the city in the amount of $959,752.
