Residents can volunteer to help guide the City of Brighton by serving on one of our Boards and Commissions, each with specific responsibilities. Each Board and Commission makes recommendations to the City Council and city staff on matters related to its area of responsibility.
Becoming a member of a Board or Commission is an excellent way to become active in the decision-making process of city government and offers citizens an opportunity to provide expertise in areas of individual interest. All positions are voluntary and vary in length of terms and time commitments.
Youth offer a unique perspective to the work of city boards. Youth are affected by the decisions of these city boards and youth voice is necessary to ensure that these decisions are the best possible decisions for the community as a whole. The Brighton Youth Commission has youth serving on:
The Legacy Foundation
The Planning Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission
The Parks and Rec Advisory Board
The Brighton Cultural Arts Commission
The Brighton Public Art Committee
The Sustainability Advisory Board
Youth serving in these positions are a liaison between youth in the community and policymakers in the community.
