The City of Brighton is excited to announce the launch of BOLT (Brighton On-Demand Local Transit), a new app-based, on-demand public transportation program that expands mobility options for residents and visitors. The service officially debuted today at a community launch event at Brighton City Hall.
BOLT provides fast, flexible transportation anywhere within the service zone and is designed to offer an affordable alternative to driving. The service operates Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and rides are free through the end of the year. Beginning January 1, fares will be $2 per ride, or $1 for students, seniors and veterans.
Using Via’s smart routing technology, BOLT groups riders traveling in the same direction, enabling efficient shared trips in small hybrid vehicles. Riders can book a trip with a few taps on a smartphone — or by phone — in both English and Spanish. Most trips are completed in about 30 minutes.
Accessibility and convenience are central to the program. BOLT offers wheelchair-accessible vehicles, door-to-door service for riders with mobility needs, and bike racks on every vehicle, giving cyclists an easy way to combine biking with on-demand transit.
“Our goal has always been to make Brighton a city that’s accessible, sustainable and connected for everyone,” said Mayor Gregory Mills. “BOLT does exactly that. This service represents a major step toward building a more sustainable, connected Brighton.”
The city developed BOLT in partnership with Via, and with RTD, whose three-year grant helped bring the program to life.
“We’re proud to partner with the City of Brighton and RTD to bring the Brighton BOLT to life,” said Min Ji, Colorado Partnerships Lead at Via. “Microtransit is reimagining the way people move in communities across Colorado, and we look forward to seeing how Via's technology helps the City of Brighton improve connectivity for its residents and visitors."
