With the city’s seasonal watering and sod installation restrictions coming to an end today, the City of Brighton would like to remind residents that water conservation and drought are not just important matters for the warmer seasons. The City of Brighton is located in a semi-arid climate with limited water resources, which can lead to frequent droughts of varying magnitude. We thank all of our residents for your efforts to conserve your water this year.
The City of Brighton has hired a consultant, INTERA Inc., to update both the water conservation and drought management plans. These plans were last updated in 2016 and 2012, respectively. INTERA Inc. will use the Colorado Water Conservation Board’s water efficiency and drought planning guidelines as the basis for their work. Specific tasks will include the establishment of water conservation goals that are consistent with future water supply planning and current water use trends. This will include a review of all current water conservation incentive programs. The plans will also evaluate drought vulnerabilities related to water supply and response mechanisms to mitigate associated risk.
Updating the plans will achieve goals and tasks identified in the City of Brighton Strategic Plan, Utilities Department Strategic Plan, and Sustainability Plan. The new plans are slated for completion in late 2026.
If you have questions, please contact the utilities department at waterconservation@brightonco.gov or 303-655-2243. Residents will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the draft plans online and at a public open house. Thank you for your assistance and cooperation with this community initiative.
