The City of Brighton will host a household hazardous waste disposal event on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Veolia Colorado Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Center (9131 E. 96th Ave., Suite B) in Commerce City.
Fees will be covered for all City of Brighton residents, up to 25 pounds of accepted material. Address verification will be required with a state-issued ID or utility bill. Any material that is not accepted will be turned away.
Accepted materials include: antifreeze, degreasers, floor cleaner, insecticide, radiator fluid, rug cleaners, bathroom cleaners, rust remover, used motor oil, wood preservative, weed killer, moth balls, paints and stains, alkaline batteries, oven cleaners, lacquers, furniture polish, rodent poison, propane cylinders, solvents, fire extinguishers, automotive batteries, rechargeable batteries, laundry products, gasoline, oil, silver cleaner, oil filters and photo chemicals.
Materials that will not be accepted include: radioactive material (smoke detectors), pepper spray or bear spray, biological or medical material (used needles or material contaminated with blood), DEA-controlled substances such as prescription painkillers, explosives (fireworks or ammunition), tires, compost, trash and Christmas trees.
This event will be held in conjunction with the city’s Fall Trash Bash, which provides residents with additional opportunities to responsibly dispose of unwanted items.
