Brighton Youth Services has partnered with the Apprentice of Peace Youth Organization (AOPYO) to host the I Am an Apprentice of Peace Program at City Hall. This is a free program open to middle and high school students in the community. One of the most important aspects of the program is the opportunity for a direct mentorship between the participant and one of Brighton Youth Services’ own AOPYO Mentors.
The I Am an Apprentice of Peace Program is an opportunity for students to find and define themselves – focusing on leadership, arts, wellness, and skilled trades. This program has been designed to provide students with an exciting experience that goes beyond traditional classroom learning. It is a two-year commitment featuring hybrid learning, which includes alternating online and in-person sessions every Monday, beginning May 6. Space is limited.
Brighton Youth Services will host an open house providing detailed information about the program on Thursday, April 11 at 6 p.m. at Brighton City Hall.
The mission of the Apprentice of Peace Youth Organization is to engage community through a whole family approach that incorporates leadership, arts, wellness, and skilled trades in all programs. The AOPYO has three principles used to guide the organization and the work done with youth and young adults:
The Realization
The Committed Effort
The Accepting Principles of Change
Over the course of the two-year program, students advance through the curriculum and level up through consistent participation and demonstration of their learning and personal growth and goal achievement. Completion of the program culminates in a community presentation and closing ceremony.
Youth will be able to demonstrate competence in areas of leadership, arts, wellness, and skilled trades.
Youth will be aware and informed about the stigmas surrounding mental health and will learn practices to hold space for open and uncommon dialogue.
Youth will learn important soft skills in social and emotional learning and coping skills, ultimately realizing and actualizing their best self.
Participants can register for the program online.
