By a 7-2 vote, Brighton City Council voted Tuesday to amend the Brighton Municipal Code to allow the operation of marijuana stores within the City.
No more than four marijuana stores will be allowed to operate within designated zoning areas in the City, including two licenses reserved for qualified Social Equity Licensees. Marijuana stores will be required to maintain a City of Brighton license and may operate from 8 a.m. to midnight.
Marijuana stores can be located only within C-2- Restricted Retail and Services, C-3 – General Retail & Services and I-1 – Light Industrial zoning district. Businesses will not be permitted in the downtown zoning district as well as in existing planned developments or planned unit developments unless already included as an approved use. Marijuana businesses will not be permitted, at the time of application for such license, within 1,000 feet of a school, residential childcare center, and any juvenile or adult halfway house, correctional facility, or substance abuse rehabilitation center.
The application period opens March 1.
