The Brighton Police Department assures the community that there is no ongoing threat to students or the public following the activation of a fire alarm at Brighton High School earlier today. The alarm was triggered by an equipment malfunction, and there is no evidence to suggest it was manually pulled.
Multiple police units responded to the school shortly after 10:30 a.m. in response to threats of violence circulating on social media across the region. Brighton Police School Resource Officers were already on scene and immediately implemented precautionary measures to ensure the safety of students and staff.
At approximately 11:15 a.m., it was confirmed that the alarm activation was due to a malfunction. While there was no immediate danger, the Brighton Police Department is continuing to investigate the source of the social media threats. As a precaution, there will be an increased police presence around Brighton High School in the coming days.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the Brighton Police tip line at 303-655-8740 or submit a Safe2Tell report. The safety of students remains our top priority, and we are working closely with 27J Schools to ensure the continued well-being of the community.
