The Brighton Police Department is investigating the death of a 2-month-old baby as a homicide. The child’s biological father, 31-year-old Donnie Casados, has been identified as a suspect and is currently in custody on unrelated charges.

On Aug. 17 just before 3:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the unit block of South 18th Avenue after reports of a baby not breathing. Officers arrived within minutes and immediately began administering CPR. The baby was transported to the hospital by medics but passed away eight days later on Aug. 25.

Due to the developing and fluid nature of the investigation, this information was not released immediately. This investigation is ongoing and continues to evolve, and no further information will be released at this time. This case will be filed with the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office where the final decision of formal charges will be determined. Under Colorado laws, the arrest and filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual committed a crime. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
