Brighton Police Department is warning the community about credit card skimmers. In the last few weeks, officers have taken multiple reports of skimmer devices at both Brighton King Soopers locations. One was found at self-checkout and the other at a standard register. Skimmers are illegal card readers attached to payment terminals that are used to steal financial information. There are many types of skimmers and they can be difficult to detect.

It is important to frequently review financial statements and transactions to spot unauthorized charges. It is also helpful to inspect card readers before use and feel if they are intact. If any part of the card reader or keypad is loose or out of alignment, or if something doesn’t seem right, report it to store staff immediately. If your account has been compromised, contact your card issuer.
Brighton Police investigators are working to process these devices and identify the suspects. If you recognize these individuals, please call our Tip Line at 303-655-8740. For more information about shopping and scams visit the Federal Trade Commission’s website.
