Horse mural brings fresh public art to downtown Brighton

City of Brighton Press Releases Posted on December 12, 2025

Brighton Urban Renewal Authority (BURA) today announced the installation of a new horse mural in the alleyway between Main Street and Cabbage Avenue. The mural is located on the north-facing wall of Dancer’s Edge Studio at 24 N. Main Street. The project was a partnership between BURA and Amy Burkman Art as part of ongoing efforts to support public art and improve the downtown environment.

The mural was created by artist Amy Burkman, based in Monterey, Calif. Burkman is known for using her artwork to support charitable causes and has raised funds for several Colorado organizations, including First Descents, Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary, Living with Harmony and the Stronghold Society. Additional examples of her work in Brighton can be viewed on the rear wall of 7AM Somewhere at 119 N. Main Street.

“I used bold colors to capture the raw energy and spirit of the horse. For me, painting animals isn’t just about creating art; it’s about honoring these incredible beings. I’m grateful to BURA and the Brighton community for making this mural possible and giving it a home where that energy can be felt by everyone who passes by.”
