[ARCHIVED] Brighton Police arrest suspect on motor vehicle theft charges

The Brighton Police Department has arrested 44-year-old Juan Cabrera on charges related to a disturbance involving a motor vehicle theft that occurred on October 21st, 2025, in the 500 block of South 2nd Ave.

On October 21st, at approximately 11:45 a.m., the victims were confronted by the suspect, who threatened one victim with a knife and assaulted her before taking her vehicle. The suspect crashed the vehicle a short distance away at E Bromley Lane and 2nd Ave and then fled on foot. Officers conducted an extensive search for the suspect and followed up on all leads before discontinuing the search. 

On October 22nd, Brighton detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Cabrera and received information that he was located in Aurora. On October 23rd, at around 1:40 p.m., Cabrera was arrested in Aurora, CO, near E Mississippi Ave and S Abilene St by the Aurora Police Department after surveillance conducted by Brighton Investigations, Impact Unit, and Aurora Police Fugitive Unit. Cabrera was turned over to Brighton Police and transported back to the Brighton Police Department.  

The case will be filed with the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and Cabrera was booked into the Adams County Jail on the following charges: 

18-3-302(1) 2ND DEG KIDNAPPING - ADULT 

18-3-302(1) 2ND DEG KIDNAPPING - MINOR 

18-3-302(1) 2ND DEG KIDNAPPING - ADULT 

18-4-302 AGGRAVATED ROBBERY - OTHER - WEAPON 

18-3-206 MENACING-FELONY-AGG- NON-FAMILY - WEAPON 

18-4-409(4)(a) 3RD DEG MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT-OBTAIN/CONTROL 

18-6-401(1)(7)(B)(II) CHILD ABUSE - NEGLIGENCE 

18-1.3-406 CRIME OF VIOLENCE (SE) 

18-3-204(1)(A) ASSAULT IN THE THIRD DEGREE 

18-6-800.3 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE 


Under Colorado laws, the arrest and filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual committed a crime. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
