The cinderblock walls of the new auxiliary gym have surpassed 10 feet in height, marking a significant milestone in the expansion. In the former racquetball court area, progress continues on the second-floor cycling studio. Helical piers are in place, and steel columns for the elevated floor will be installed in the coming week. The studio remains on track for a late August opening.
In preparation for upcoming utility upgrades, preparatory work is also underway for a major two-week facility shutdown, scheduled for Saturday, May 17 through Monday, June 2.
During this time:
- The old utility driveway is being cut to allow for rapid demolition and relocation of the main fire, domestic and irrigation water lines.
- Underground plumbing for the expanded areas is currently being installed.
- A complete fire alarm system upgrade will be finalized and switched over to the new system.
- New carpet will be installed throughout the west side of the facility, including the lobby, front desk, childcare area, and hallways.
- A new rooftop HVAC unit will also be set and connected to the existing system, improving climate control and energy efficiency.
The City of Brighton appreciates the community’s patience and support during this important phase of improvement. These upgrades and expansions will enhance the Recreation Center experience for years to come.
