Sculpture on Loan Submittal Form

  1. City of Brighton Sculpture on Loan Program

  2. About the program

The Sculpture-on-Loan Program is a part of the City of Brighton's Eye for Art Program and provides for the placement of large sculptures on the grounds surrounding the City Hall building, creating a sculpture walk.

The deadline to apply for the 2022-2023 Sculpture-on-Loan Program is 11:59 p.m., August 15, 2022.

  3. Description
    • Artists selected agree to place their outdoor sculpture on loan to the City of Brighton for one year.
    • Sculptures will be offered for sale to the public, at a price determined by the artist.
    • 20% commission on sculpture sales will go to the Eye for Art Program.
    • Five pieces will be selected for installation.
    • The program is open theme subject matter.
    • Plaques will be provided for each piece which lists the artist, sponsors, date and materials.

  4. Requirements
    • The artist is responsible for making arrangements to transport and install their work. The artist must provide tools and equipment needed for installation, including extension cords.
    • Installation and de-installation is coordinated with the artist through the City of Brighton Arts & Culture Coordinator.
    • The sculptures will be installed outside and exposed to the elements, including harsh sun, high winds, wide fluctuations in temperatures, and moisture.
    • The sculpture should be safe for interaction with the public, especially children.
    • Maximum weight must not exceed 1,000 pounds.
    • Fragile, vulnerable or inappropriate work will not be considered.
    • Recommended minimum height is 5 feet tall. Visual presence is essential.
    • The sculptures will be viewed from all angles, and must be sized to allow for installation and proper proportion on the existing pads and pedestals.
    • By submitting a proposal, the artist agrees to the terms of acceptance in the Sculpture-on-Loan Program.

  5. Deadlines
    • The application is due by 11:59 p.m. on July 15 2022.
    • All sculptures submitted for consideration must be available for delivery and installation by or before August 15, 2022 and remain on display until July 15, 2023.
    • Artists will be selected on or before July 21, 2022 and notified the following week.

  6. Site Description
    • Installation will be at Carmichael Park, 650 E Southern Street, Brighton, Colorado.
    • Pedestal style:  Black powder coated steel pedestal
    • Ped size; 36” high and 36” square black powder coated steel pedestals
      • The pedestals themselves sit on a concrete footing that is 5" high.
      • Raw steel plates attached to the top of the pedestals allow for tack weld and/or bolt installation.
      • Maximum weight must not exceed 1,000 pounds.
      • The plinth is metal, and ideally we are looking for a way to adapt all sculptures to a single ½” stud that can be bolted down from the inside (a single ½” threaded bolt coming out of the base of the sculpture is best). That way we can just use a forklift and straps to raise and lower them into place.

  7. Honorarium and Sales
    • The artist honorarium is $500 for each sculpture selected for display.
    • The Eye for Art committee will retain a 20% commission on sculptures sold to support the Eye for Art program.
    • A $1,000 cash award will be awarded to one artist chosen by Brighton residents as “Brighton’s Choice.”
    • Although the purchase of an Sculpture-on-Loan piece is not guaranteed, the Eye for Art committee is committed to expanding Brighton’s permanent collection. The Sculpture-on-Loan program is used as a resource for potential purchases.
