The Brighton Office for Victim Assistance (BOVA) was awarded a Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority (CATPA) grant.
This program is specifically designed to offset the secondary costs associated with vehicle theft and has now been expanded to include aid for the costs of vehicle repair and additional services. If your vehicle was stolen out of or recovered in Brighton, Commerce City, Fort Lupton, or Lochbuie, you may be eligible for assistance. To contact BOVA about this program, please email kmessina@brightonco.gov or call 303-655-2308.
Some of the expenses that victims may be eligible for reimbursement for are:
- Public transportation
- Ride-share services
- Rental vehicle services
- Cleaning and sanitation fees
- Towing and storage fees
- Minor Vehicle repair
- Vehicle loan coverage (For vehicles that are “upside down” in a loan, resulting from the theft and total loss declaration)
- Steering wheel locks
- Out-of-pocket insurance deductible
Funding for victim support is on a first-come, first-served basis, as qualified. Funding is limited. The program is active now through June of 2025. To begin the process to apply for assistance, please complete the initial Victims Assistance Application.
The application will ask general questions such as
- Your Contact Information

- Recovery location (if applicable)
Then the application will request documents such as:
- Drivers license
- Valid vehicle registration at the time of theft
- Insurance declaration page
- A copy of the police report
