The building closures (closures for all City buildings) have been closed effective March 13. City Council is set to discuss the reopening at its meeting on June 2. This schedule is subject to change as the city continues to evaluate information from our local and state partners. Updates will be posted on the city website and social media sites.
Amenities of parks, playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, and picnic areas in the City of Brighton remain closed. These closures fall in-line with the state’s Public Health Order that all park amenities, including but not limited to playgrounds, skate parks, basketball courts, tennis courts, picnic areas, public restrooms, and similar spaces conducive to public gathering, are closed due to the risk of spread of COVID-19.
Residents may still enjoy walking paths, trails, and open spaces in the city, as long as they practice social distancing of at least six feet from other people.

Starting on May 27, the state began to allow restaurants to offer indoor dine-in service at 50-percent of the posted occupancy code limit and a maximum of 50 patrons. Guidelines include parties limited to eight people, tables must be six feet apart, all employees must wear face coverings, and deep cleanings and disinfecting must be done on surfaces with each turnover.
The City of Brighton is dedicated to working with restaurants in order to maximize the number of patrons possible at each establishment. The City of Brighton’s Municipal Court will be closed to the public through May 31 in response to the national, state and local efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19. This date is subject to change.

I have a traffic ticket that requires an appearance. Do I still have to go to court?All traffic tickets are eligible for the "Early Plea Guidelines" established by the City Prosecutor. Those traffic cases not eligible for the early pay plea offer are eligible for a plea by mail at the discretion of the City Prosecutor. I’m on a bond. How do I continue my case?If you posted bond in your case, you may still receive a continuance. Please call the court to schedule the new court date.
I have outstanding court fees. Do I still need to pay?The obligations of your court sentence are still in effect. Payments are accepted by mail, online at citepayusa.com or at the drop box. If you need additional assistance, please call the court.
My child was to complete a class and community service. What do we do now?The court has authorized all classes to be completed online and alternatives are being offered in lieu of community service. Please call the probation officer at 303-655-2320 to discuss your options.
What if I don’t want to plead guilty, I want a trial?At this time the court is unable to set any matter for trial, however, your right to a trial has not been waived. Once court resumes, you may discuss your case with the City Prosecutor and proceed to a trial setting if you so choose.
I have a pending criminal case. Will I get a warrant for not appearing?Any pending criminal case will be reviewed by the City Prosecutor to see if a plea by mail can be offered. All other cases will be reset to a future date. The court asks that you verify your mailing or email address to receive correspondence.
I have been ill or required to self-quarantine and therefore unable to comply with my sentence. What should I do?The court requests that you email a letter and doctor’s note to firstname.lastname@example.org and you will be granted a continuance.

Due to continued spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) cases in Colorado and several positive cases in Adams County, Brighton City Council approved a resolution March 14 declaring a local disaster for the City of Brighton. This declaration will remain in effect until it is determined by City Council to be no longer necessary.
The local disaster declaration allows for the city to activate response and recovery plans and to effectively acquire and deploy federal, state, and county resources to support the Brighton community.
Regarding COVID-19 and the city’s water and wastewater operations, the coronavirus has no impact on the quality or supply of your tap water. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking-water supplies. Based on current evidence, the risk to water supplies is low and Americans can continue to use and drink water from their tap as usual. As required for all municipal water systems, the treatment processes used at the Water Treatment Facility removes or destroys 99.99-percent of all viruses.

In response to the COVID-19 disaster declaration and the significant financial impact to Brighton residents, City Council voted to temporarily reduce water rates, extend the deadline for payment, and suspend late fees through the month of June. Brighton utility customers will not receive a bill for the next several weeks but instead will see a combined single bill due in June incorporating these reduced rates. This applies to both residential and non-residential customers. Below are some important changes to your next utility bill:
Customers who on average use 5,000 gallons of water per month will see a savings of approximately $45 on their combined April/May bill. While customers will not have a bill due until June, payments may still be made monthly if preferred.
In addition to the rate reductions, City Council approved changes to Brighton’s Water Assistance Program to help residential customers who need temporary financial assistance to pay their water bill.
