The City of Brighton has
amended the code for public hearing notices. City Council adopted this change
earlier this month to increase transparency with developments within city
limits. This change will affect anyone who needs to go through the entitlement
process: platting their land or rezoning their land into a Planned Unit
Here are the requirements
that are now in effect in the City of Brighton for all projects with a public
- Notify neighbors within 300 feet of the project property
- Post a written notice in the newspaper at least 15 days in advance
- Post a sign on the street adjacent to the property at least 15 days in advance
Prior to this amendment, different types of projects had different requirements on when and how the public was informed of the public hearing. The changes will expand the mailing
requirement distance for some projects, require some projects to be in the
paper sooner, and will require signs to be posted on the property longer for
