[ARCHIVED] BHA and Small Business Development Center partner to bring specialized training

The City of Brighton Housing Authority (BHA) is pleased to partner with the Brighton Small Business Development Center (Brighton SBDC) to develop the Section 3 Program for the Brighton Housing Authority Applicant Assistance Program (AAP).

Funded through a special Community Service Block Grant, the program will provide specialized training to qualifying Brighton and Adams County residents to aid them in obtaining certification or specialized licenses needed to be successful in business. This program is specifically designed to foster jobs in the community by offering financial and technical assistance in the training and education for market qualifications and skill sets specifically relating to assisting qualified AAP candidates become qualified bidders and awardees of Section 3 contracts locally and nationwide. The training is intended to directly assist qualified applicants in starting a business or working with existing businesses to gain an understanding in writing and winning government contracts in a variety of disciplines.

Participants in the program will receive training to help them articulate their personal objectives and purpose; discover mental blocks that might prevent them from becoming more powerful and effective leaders in the community; as well as counseling and training to develop their business skills.

Participants will learn the invaluable skill of systemic thinking and how to identify the strategic system solutions that support business growth and development. This exciting program offers participants the ability to embrace a new way of thinking about self, business, employees and customers to foster independence for the future and today.

This opportunity is limited to a maximum of 25 participants to launch the program with hopes to extend it to a larger number in the future. Applicants will be accepted on a first come, first serve bases.

A vital training program for the AAP participants is the BizStart Academy offered by the Brighton SBDC. This eight-hour program walks participants through the necessary steps of starting and licensing a business. The next BizStart Academy will be held in Brighton from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on October 4.
