Brighton Police Department is investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred on June 30 just after 2:30 a.m. The initial investigation reveals that an individual driving a Jeep Cherokee struck a pedestrian on eastbound I-76 near the E-470 ramp. The driver of the Jeep called the police, along with a passerby who stopped to try and render aid. When officers arrived they determined that the pedestrian, an unidentified male, was deceased.
One eastbound lane was shut down for several hours. The driver and their passenger were not injured. The driver was not suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol and speed is not a contributing factor.
This crash is under investigation by Brighton Police Department detectives and traffic safety officers. They are continuing to work to identify the deceased in order to notify next of kin. Once identified, the name will be withheld pending positive identification from the Adams County Coroner’s Office.
