The Colorado City & County Management Association (CCCMA) awarded the City of Brighton’s Performance and Leadership Academy the 2022 Program Excellence Award. This award is the highest honor given by CCCMA to recognize pioneering programs that are innovating the local government profession in Colorado, and 2022 is only the second year this honor was bestowed.
The Performance and Leadership Academy is a five-week program that teaches participants how to build strong organizations and LEAN skills for identifying, analyzing, and solving pain points in their day-to-day work. It also empowers participants to lead from any seat, build winning teams, and deliver exceptional customer service both internal and external. Combined, these skills reinforce Brighton's core values and promote a positive culture. Graduates must utilize the tools learned in the Academy to implement an innovation project and receive their black belt in process improvement.
To date, Academy graduates have implemented 24 innovations projected to save the City $212,396.67 annually, including over 3,600 hours of staff time. The Academy has also expanded its offerings to include students from other government entities and nonprofits on a limited first-come, first-served basis. For more information on the Academy or to apply, please visit the Academy website.
