Brighton City Council approved a series of upgrades to Water Tower Park during the City Council’s March 21 meeting. Improvements to Water Tower Park (4204 Crestone Peak Street) will include artificial turf conversion, irrigation replacement, and the installation of sports lighting, fencing, and a playground. The project is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2023.
The conversion of the athletic fields from natural grass to artificial turf is expected to save more than 1.85 million gallons of water each year. Additionally, LED lighting installation will allow the complex to offer Brighton’s first outdoor-lighted facilities for football, soccer, and rugby. Lighting will be directionally accurate to reduce light pollution outside the playing fields.
The new commercial grade playground is age inclusive and will feature ADA-accessible pour-in-place surfacing, a small swing bay, shade structures to help reduce heat, and sensory panels around the footprint and on the structure.
