The Brighton Police Department (BPD) is investigating a homicide that occurred on July 12, 2022, just before 9:30 p.m. at Ken Mitchell Park located at 889 Kinglet Court in Brighton. BPD was dispatched to the park on a report of a male shot and unresponsive. At the park, BPD officers found a 17-year-old male fatally shot. BPD is working with the Adams County Coroner’s Office to identify the deceased male and make that information public.

Witnesses reported hearing an argument between the victim and an unknown suspect before hearing gunfire. Detectives worked overnight interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence. At this time, no suspect has been identified. This is still an active investigation. BPD does not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public

Residents near Ken Mitchell Park are asked to check their video surveillance systems for any footage that may assist the investigation. BPD also urge anyone with information on this homicide to contact our Investigation Division at 303-655-8740.  Witnesses can also submit tips anonymously through Denver Metro Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 or by visiting metrodenvercrimestoppers.com.
