Brighton Police are investigating an attempted armed car theft. At about 1:00 p.m., police responded to the 300 block of S. 29th Avenue for a report of an attempted car theft. The victim reported seeing the suspect trying to steal the victim’s vehicle. The victim confronted the suspect, and the suspect produced a handgun, threatening the victim. The suspect fled the scene in a Chevrolet pickup truck, and police spotted the suspect's truck near Prairie Center Parkway and Bromley Lane.
Brighton Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle fled, and a pursuit ensued. The suspect led police on a pursuit onto westbound Interstate 76. The suspect exited the interstate near Sable Blvd and suddenly attempted to get back onto the interstate using the grassy median between the off-ramp and the interstate. The driver lost control, and the truck rolled ejecting two of the occupants. Those parties were transported to area hospitals, and a third party is currently in police custody. The Chevrolet Truck driven by the suspects is a reported stolen vehicle out of Denver.
The North Metro Accident Investigation Team will handle the crash investigation, and Brighton Police Department is handling the remainder of the investigation.
