In partnership with The Pennock Center for Counseling, the Brighton Youth Commission will be offering two virtual QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) courses for the community on Monday, April 26. Classes will take place at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and are free of cost. The QPR courses are part of SPEAK (Suicide Prevention Education Awareness Knowledge) Week (April 26 - May 1), a series of virtual and in-person events that aim to raise awareness about the prevalence of teen suicide and to educate the community on mental health issues and the stigmas surrounding them.
Key components covered in the training include:
-How to question, persuade and refer someone who may be suicidal
-How to get help for yourself or learn more about preventing suicide
-The common causes of suicidal behavior
-The warning signs of suicide
-How to get help for someone in crisis
The QPR courses will be presented virtually through Zoom - log in details can be found at speak5k.org. Please register for one of the two trainings here.
