City Council votes to opt into Tri-County Health Department public health order on face coverings

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, City Council voted 6-3 to opt into Tri-County Health Department’s (TCHD) local public health order requiring face coverings for all adults and children 10 or older in indoor public spaces and outdoor spaces whenever six-foot distancing is not maintained. This vote means the City of Brighton will follow TCHD’s extended order requiring face coverings in public places during the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, or until amended or rescinded.

Back on July 14, City Council voted unanimously to opt out of TCHD’s public health order that required face coverings in public places for a 90-day period that was set to expire on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 11:59 p.m. Counties or municipalities that opted out of the order in July remain opted out in the extended order, but must adhere to Governor Jared Polis’ statewide mask order. This vote by City Council opts Brighton into TCHD’s face covering order.

According to the TCHD, wearing a mask remains one of the most important tools in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.
