On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the Brighton City Council approved the adoption of the 2018 International Building, Residential, Plumbing, Mechanical, Fuel Gas, Energy Conservation, Property Maintenance, Existing Building, Swimming Pool and Spa Code, Fire Codes and the 2020 National Electric Code with amendments. The adopted codes will become effective Jan. 1, 2021 with the exception of the National Electric Code which will become effective on Oct. 7, 2020.
These codes will bring the City into current technology, material and methods that are not addressed in previous versions.
Construction documents may be submitted under the current codes or the newly adopted codes until Jan. 1, 2021. Any project that is currently in the process of approval at that time may continue to use the designed code.
