On June 16, City Council voted to award a $2,399,883 contract to Duran Excavating, Inc. for the Core City Pipe Replacement Project. The decision comes after a formal bidding process that included nine companies, with Duran Excavating, Inc. selected as the most responsive and responsible bidder.

The project is part of the City’s annual waterline replacement program. The City has miles of undersized pipe that is nearing its serviceable life of 70-plus years. This project will replace roughly 11,300 linear feet of aged and undersized pipe, replace existing hydrants on an as-needed basis, improve water quality, pressure and flow, and pave entire lane widths to improve existing streets. The target areas will be those with a high number of line breaks, water quality issues, and inadequate water flow, with the goal of reducing the number of pipe breaks and long-term maintenance costs.

The replacement project is anticipated to begin in July 2020. Residents will receive notifications with project details and contact information. They will also be informed of any scheduled water shutoff through hand-delivered notification 48 hours before service interruption. The expectation is that affected residents won’t go more than four hours without water service.

The Core City Pipe Replacement Project is one of several major projects currently moving forward in the approved 2020 Capital Projects Program. The project is expected to be complete by late October 2020.
