City of Brighton reports first case of employee with COVID-19

COVID_Update

The City of Brighton today received confirmation that a city employee has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now receiving medical attention. The case marks the first known positive case of a city employee.

As a precautionary measure, all co-workers and external contacts who have been in direct contact with this employee have been notified and asked to self-quarantine by staying at home for 14 days from last known contact. The employee was last in City Hall on March 13 and briefly in another city facility on March 18 and received positive test results today, March 24.

On March 16, the city temporarily closed all city buildings to the public. This temporary closure is currently in effect through April 16 and allows for city operations to continue while minimizing possible exposure to COVID-19. Employees who have the ability to work from home have been encouraged to do so in order to practice social distancing in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.

The City of Brighton will handle each case with the utmost respect to privacy while also informing potentially affected staff and taking swift measures to mitigate the spread of the virus. The city is reminding all employees to follow the CDC guidance about COVID-19 to prevent illness and recognize symptoms.
