Brighton City Council approved a resolution tonight calling for a special mail ballot election to fill the Ward 2 City Council vacancy. The special election will be held on April 28.
Ward 2 City Council nomination packets will be available on Jan. 28 in the City Clerk’s office, located on the fourth floor of City Hall, 500 S. 4th Ave.
Ward 2 Candidates are required to return their petitions with the names of 25 qualified electors from their specific wards by 5 p.m. Feb. 18.
Here are some key upcoming dates if you’d like to become a candidate for Ward 2:
- Jan. 28 – First day that petitions for nominations may be circulated
- Feb. 18 – Last day to circulate petitions for nominations; petitions must be filed with the City Clerk by 5 p.m.
- Feb. 21 – Last day to file an affidavit of intent to run as a write-in candidate
- April 28 – Election Day
On Dec. 17, 2019, Ward 2 Council Member Greg Mills was sworn in as Mayor, creating a vacancy in Ward 2. The candidate elected would fill the vacated seat of the unexpired term ending January 2022.
