City employee recognized as 2019 Professional of the Year

The Brighton City Council recognized a member of the Parks and Recreation department at Tuesday night’s meeting for his achievement of receiving the 2019 CPRA Parks Section Professional of the Year. Troy Channell, Parks Supervisor, received this award from the state at the annual conference that was held earlier this month.

Nominees had to meet the following criteria to be eligible for the award:

  • Demonstrates outstanding skills and knowledge in the parks and irrigation profession.  

  • Willingness to assist others and be a positive representation of the parks profession to fellow employees and the public.  

  • Actively attends and completes industry related continuing education and training opportunities.  

  • Exceptional irrigation knowledge including water conservation strategies, techniques to improve irrigation efficiency and knowledge of current industry trends.

October marks Channell’s four-year anniversary as an employee with the City of Brighton. He said Parks and Recreation is something he’s passionate about.  

“I have been in this field for over 20 years and have continued to learn and grow every day,” Channell said. “I really appreciate being nominated by my supervisors and co-workers here in Brighton and it's a great honor to be recognized by my peers for this award.”
