The City of Brighton’s Office of Youth Services will once again host its annual Growing Grads series. This series is a program that was created to provide parents and students local resources for life after high school.
For students looking to enter post secondary education, Growing Grads includes an annual series of evening workshops that help families learn about scholarship information and get hands-on assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. This year the FAFSA Kickoff event will be Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 5:30-8 p.m. at The Armory Performing Arts Center, 300 Strong St. This event will include a table fair with all the resources a teen needs to make a decision on where to go and how to pay for college. Representatives from branches of the military will also be on hand to answer questions and provide information. The kickoff event is mostly geared for high school juniors and seniors but anyone looking for assistance getting financial aid or wanting information on next steps can attend.
Additionally, the Office of Youth Services will also host four other FAFSA Nights at various schools around the community. Anyone can attend these nights, even if they do not attend the school that is hosting. Those dates, times and locations are as follows:
Oct. 16 - FAFSA Night at Brighton High School, 5-7 p.m.
Oct. 23 - FAFSA Night at Eagle Ridge Academy, 5-7 p.m
Nov. 5 - FAFSA Night at Prairie View High School, 5-7 p.m
Jan. 8 - FAFSA Night at Front Range Community College - Brighton Campus, 5-7 p.m.
Anyone who attends any of the FAFSA Nights or the Kickoff event will be entered into a giveaway to win a laptop. The event is free but you’re asked to register in advance by going to www.brightonco.gov/GrowingGrads.
