Did you know that fuel can be made from used cooking oil? the City of Brighton Utilities Department, in collaboration with RecycOil, are working to keep used cooking oils and greases out of the sewers and landfill, and divert them into biodiesel production to be sold back as clean, renewable fuel. You can participate in this effort, simply by recycling.

The recycling bin for used cooking oil is placed at the City of Brighton Wastewater Treatment Plant, located at 325 N Kuner Rd (use south entrance off Brighton Rd). Drop-off by appointment only (call 303-655-2093). Hours: M-F, 7AM to 5PM

Residential service only. Bring proof of residence, such as water bill. No commercial kitchens please. Ten (10) gallons per person maximum. Do not mix with automotive oil waste. Use a sealed disposable container. If grease is frozen it is best to bring it to room temperature prior to disposal.

Recycling For Households
1. Plan ahead when planning to recycle. Don't wait until you have a pan of leftover oil to dump. Make a designated waste oil container, label it and put it somewhere everyone in your home can easily access
2. After cooking, allow the oil to cool down and pour it into plastic storage containers.
3. Locate the recycling drop-off location
4. Be happy that you are protecting your home and city from sewer damage; you are helping the environment, and you are helping create clean energy.
