Once again, Brighton police officers and area 7-Eleven stores are teaming up to reward kids ‘caught’ doing good things with ‘tickets’ they can exchange for a cool frozen treat, as part of the 24th anniversary of ‘Operation Chill."
Started in 1995, the program provides local officers across the country with ‘tickets’ they can issue to children they observe engaging in positive behaviors; the tickets can be exchanged at participating 7-Eleven stores for a free small Slurpee drink, as a reminder that good things shouldn’t go unnoticed. Since then, the program has enabled officers from hundreds of law enforcement agencies to distribute nearly 21 million drink tickets to kids for doing things like wearing bike helmets, following safety rules, or helping a friend with a problem.
This year, Brighton officers hope to ‘issue’ 750 of the coupons to local children in July and August.
