The City of Brighton has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended Dec. 31, 2017. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The award of Financial Reporting Achievement has been awarded to the Finance Department for preparing the award-winning CAFR. Reports submitted to the CAFR program are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and the GFOA Special Review Committee, which comprises individuals with expertise in public sector financial reporting and includes financial statement preparers, independent auditors, academics, and other finance professionals.
City Manager Philip Rodriguez honored the Finance Department during the March 19 City Council meeting with Finance Director Ron Lay and staff accepting the award. City Council expressed its gratitude to the Finance Department and recognized the achievements of city staff who received the award.
