The City of Brighton is committed to obeying all applicable federal, state, and local laws, and ensuring that all program benefits and services are provided to eligible individuals without discrimination or harassment and in compliance with civil rights laws.
This applies to all relationships between the city and its employees, including recruitment, employment, promotion, transfer, training, working conditions, termination, wages, and benefits. The City of Brighton will not tolerate discrimination or harassment between or among coworkers, supervisors and/or managers, customers, or vendors.
Your Rights
Your personal rights are guaranteed and protected by the U.S. Constitution and federal laws enacted by Congress, such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Civil rights include protection from unlawful discrimination and harassment based on a protected status, such as race, color, national origin, sexual orientation, or age.
File a Complaint
If you feel that you have been harassed or discriminated against on the basis of any of the protected categories listed above, please complete the Complaint Form completely in print or type. Sign and return to the City of Brighton’s Anti-Discrimination Coordinator via email, mail, or in person within 30 days of the alleged incident.
Complaints should be in writing whenever possible, however, if you are unable to write your complaint due to a disability, alternatives are available. Please reach out to the Anti-Discrimination Coordinator to discuss alternate methods for filing a complaint. File a complaint.
Anti-Retaliation
The City of Brighton shall not discriminate against any individual because that individual has opposed any act or practice made unlawful by the ADA, Civil Rights Act, or any other state or federal law because that individual made a charge, testified, assisted, or participated in any manner in an investigation, proceeding, or hearing under the ADA, Civil Rights Act, or other state or federal law.
The City of Brighton shall not coerce, intimidate, threaten, or interfere with any individual in the exercise or enjoyment of, or on account of, his or her having aided or encouraged any other individual in the exercise or enjoyment of, any right granted or protected by the ADA, Civil Rights Act, or any other state or federal law.
