Level 5 - Stroke Refinement and Endurance

Ages 6 - 14

This class is recommended for students who have successfully completed level 4. The pre-requisite skills for Level 5 are:

  • 50 yards freestyle with rotary breathing
  • 50 yards backstroke
  • 50 yards elementary backstroke
  • 25 yards breaststroke
  • 10 yards butterfly
  • Introductory sidestroke
  • 60 seconds treading water in the deep end
  • Standing dives in the deep end
  • Jump off starting block
  • Demonstrate open turns
  • Water safety skills

There will be a focus on building swimming endurance with all four competitive strokes as well as refining technique. In order to successfully complete Level 5, your swimmer must demonstrate:

  • 100 yards freestyle with rotary breathing
  • 100 yards backstroke
  • 100 yards elementary backstroke
  • 50 yards breaststroke
  • 25 yards butterfly
  • 25 yards sidestroke
  • 2 minutes of treading water in deep end without using hands
  • Demonstrate flip turns
  • Competitive starts off starting block
  • Surface dives - feet-first and head-first
  • 300 yard swim without stopping using freestyle or breaststroke
  • Retrieve 10lb brick from bottom of deep end

Once your swimmer has completed Level 5, it's recommended that they join our youth swim team, the Brighton Gators, to promote more learning, sportsmanship, and healthy exercise habits.
