Stormwater Management Program

The primary goal of the City of Brighton Stormwater Program is to reduce the amount of pollutants entering streams, lakes and rivers. Pollutants, such as fertilizers, pesticides, sediments, trash and spilled chemicals may be transported by rain water runoff from residential, commercial and industrial areas into the storm sewer system discharging directly into our local waterways without receiving any treatment.

In an effort to regulate what is allowed to flow down the storm drain, a Stormwater Ordinance was adopted by City Council in January 2007. This ordinance, which targets to improve water quality in our local waterways, makes it unlawful, with some exceptions for residential neighborhoods, for any person to discharge non-storm water into the city's storm water drainage system.

The purpose of the City's Stormwater Program is to coordinate the implementation and enforcement of the following six minimum control measures not only to protect the city's natural resources, ensure public safety, and continue to improve the quality of life of all residents, but also to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations:
