The purpose of Brighton Urban Renewal Authority (BURA) is to assist in the reinvestment of property within the designated downtown area. This will include the participation of the City of Brighton and the Urban Renewal Authority to stimulate the private sector to make necessary investments.
The Brighton City Council authorized the formation of BURA on April 3, 2001 and received state. The BURA area encompasses the downtown area of the city of Brighton and focuses primarily on two corridors: Bridge Street and Main Street/Brighton Road.
BURA Objectives: To provide for the most beneficial, profitable, and efficient utilization of land. To encourage the development of financial mechanism and programs that promotes redevelopment and reinvestment. To improve the transportation system, and reduce congestion. To enhance the natural beauty of the designated area. To create new employment. To promote the historic character of downtown Brighton.
