The Department of Youth Resources was created to provide young people with an active role in the decision-making process within the city of Brighton. Per Ordinance 1837, "the City Council recognizes that encouragement and nurturing of families is best achieved when young people are empowered, supported and informed so they can be productive members of the community."
The Children, Youth and Family (CY&F) Master Plan was developed through various youth serving committees and agencies in the City of Brighton that worked together to identify needs and resources in the community. The CY&F Master Plan will be used to implement policies, programs, and services that will ensure that children, youth, and families flourish in the City of Brighton.
The assisting committees are: Early Childhood Development, Health and Safety, Family Economics, Neighborhoods and Community, Educational Excellence and City/School Relationships, and Youth in Transition.
The Youth Resource Department also oversees the Brighton Youth Commission.
Youth Resources is affiliated with the City of Brighton Parks & Recreation Department.
