Elections & Voting


City of Brighton elections are conducted every two years, in odd-numbered years, on the first Tuesday in November.

Mayor and council members are elected to four-year terms. If you have questions about the election process, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at 303-655-2056.

Run-Off Election



The City of Brighton will hold a special mail ballot run-off election for the Mayor, Ward I Council Member, and Ward 2 Council Member seats on Tuesday, December 5.

Since no candidate for Mayor, Ward I Council Member, or Ward 2 Council Member received a majority of votes cast, per Article II, Section 3.6 of the city charter, a run-off election is required for the two candidates with the highest number of votes.

A run-off election will be held for the following seats: for Mayor: Ken Kreutzer and Wayne Scott; for Ward 1: Joan Kniss and Matt Johnston; for Ward 2: Gregory Mills and Ferman “Sonny” Maestas.

Brighton’s City Clerk will mail ballots to active registered voters in Brighton, Ward 1 and Ward 2 between Nov.13 and Nov. 20. The designated voting locations for the special run-off mail ballot election are: Brighton City Hall, 500 South 4th Ave., Fire Station 52, 124 South 40th Ave., Brighton Recreation Center, 555 North 11th Ave., and Eagle View Adult Center, 1150 Prairie Center Parkway.

Applications for mail-in ballots and replacement ballots will be held at the following locations:
• Brighton City Hall-  beginning Nov. 13 and continuing Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. except Nov. 23 and Nov. 24; and on   Election Day from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
• Fire Station 52 – on Election Day from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
• Brighton Recreation Center - on Election Day from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Voters can drop the ballots off at the following walk-in locations:
• Brighton City Hall-  beginning Nov. 13 and continuing Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. except Nov. 23 and Nov. 24; and on Election Day from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
• Fire Station 52 – on Election Day from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
• Brighton Recreation Center - on Election Day from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
• Eagle View Adult Center - on Election Day from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Voter Information

Colorado voter registration forms can be obtained at the City Clerk's office or by visiting the state's website. You must be 18 years of age, a United States citizen and a resident of Colorado for 22 days prior to the election. Registration forms must be submitted to the appropriate County Clerk's office. Each office's address and phone number is listed on the back of the registration form.
